“We need to automate the commission run”
“The close takes too long”
“We want a forecasting model”
These sentences make sense, and they almost always point at something real. But they also name a symptom. The close runs nine days because three versions of the same workbook circulate and the reconciliation is rebuilt by hand every month. The commission run is late because the source data arrives in three formats and someone re-keys it. A model built on that data would be confident, and wrong.
Everyone sells AI. In finance, the question is not what it can do: it is what remains auditable once it has passed through.
You already close every month.
That is exactly what we work from.
Your team knows where the days go. What you rarely have is an outside reading: the one taken by someone with no history in your decisions and no stake in defending them. So we come to you, and we follow the calculation through the people who run it.
The protocol
A first conversation, remote and free of charge, sets the perimeter. It produces an offer — scope, duration and price, fixed. The diagnostic begins at signature.
On site
In your finance department. Interviews, screens, the files as they exist: the workbooks, the exports, the manual steps between two systems.
Reading
The calculation followed from source to statement. Where the data enters, where it is re-keyed, where it is corrected by hand. Which controls exist, and which are only assumed.
Readout
A working session. The findings, then the plan, discussed together.
A number you cannot trace is not a number you can automate.
What you receive
The calculation chain mapped, from source to statement. A ranked list of the points where automation would hold: each with an expected gain, a cost and a risk. The controls that must survive automation, named. What we advise leaving in human hands, and why. A sequence, with a first step small enough to run alongside your next close.
Nothing in the plan requires replacing your accounting system. The plan is yours: executable by nuclai, by your teams, or by another firm. That is a deliberate property of the document.
On the possible answer: no
A diagnostic that only ever confirmed the request would not be a diagnostic. Some calculations are already reliable. Some data is too irregular to carry a model: a forecast needs history, and history that means the same thing from one year to the next. Some delays are organisational — an approval waiting on one person is not a technology problem. And some steps belong under a human signature, because that signature is what makes them auditable. When that is the reading, we say so in writing, with the evidence. You keep the map and the argument. Nothing further is sold to you.
Terms
The diagnostic is a paid engagement, at a fixed price. Coming to you, following the work end to end and thinking about it properly: that is the work, not its preface. We charge for it so that the reading stays a reading.
Then, and only then
Process automation. Analysis and forecasting models. Two services, neither of them sold before the reading justifies it.
